“We wanted to go for the big win,” says Xavier Buck, the foundation’s
executive director. “Adding to the national park system gives it legitimacy
on a different scale, and it gives it legitimacy in a country that once had
all these people under FBI surveillance. My hope is that every single city
where there was a chapter could potentially join our national park unit and
become the largest national park in the nation.”
